STORY:
College is a challenge, not just to new and different things, but often a challenge to what and how we believe.
Sam and John, both coming from different backgrounds have become friends, but can it last?
As a short it is designed to not provide answers but to provoke conversations.
1 What was the real problem, what was at stake?
2 What was Sam trying to do?
3 Why did John react the way he did?
4 Is John on the verge of change or just alone and angry?
5 Why did the instructor blow up at John?
BACKGROUND:
This film was produced as a Pro Shoot for Compass Film Academy, where I teach. The concept is to demonstrate each aspect of production before the students do it for themselves. In this case the students gave me several characters and situations to choose to write a screenplay from. As I wrote I shared each phase with them and getting feedback form them , just the way we what them to proceed. Once we got a "locked " script, they were put into department teams. (PA, Camera, Light, Sound, Art..) and then received some training from professionals in that area. During the filming the students were out in front doing the work with the Professional behind and only stepping in when needed.
After the Pro Shoot, they go on and write and produce their own semester project. Now with the background of just not seeing how one is done, but being involved in the process.
Tech notes:
TWO ROADS was shot on a Sony Z1U in 60i, using a Brevis (from Cinevate) 35mm Lens adaptor and several still prim lenses.
