on one of your earlier comments you mentioned trying to keep the resoluion at 1280 x 760, standard hd resolution would be 1280 x 720. I suspect that you are stretching the image when you try to render a 720 file to 760. just a guess

Thanks studio221! I think I misspoke. I had used fcp studio's compress to export the footage, and had modified one of the 1280x720 options. I don't know why I remembered 760. In any case, I think I've fixed it. There's an option in compress that allows you to adjust the output to the aspect ratio. Why this isn't selected by default is beyond me. I'm going to see if vimeo will allow you to reupload a video and keep the existing comments. Thanks for your help!
