Here is a piece I made of found objects and electronics for Niklas Roy's workshop, "Reinventing the Television." It was held at Valand School of Fine Art for the C:Art:Media master's program.
With this I wanted to express my fascination with vacuum tubes, displaying them in a kind of "cabinet of curiosity," (wunderkammer) or something resembling a historical diorama. I wanted to call attention to these beautiful forgotten things. Vacuum tubes were the first time humans could control electrons, and all of our wonderful electronic tools are descended from them.
This "Box of Forgetfulness" is an old Swedish television cabinet filled with over one hundred vacuum tubes/valves. As you can see some of them are powered on, and the large thyratron in the middle is timed through an Arduino. The marquee signal lamps are thanks to Niklas, who also taught me the basics of electronic circuits.
