I shot this yesterday afternoon when I noticed the clouds rolling in. The clouds were perfect and it was pretty windy so the conditions were ideal. Shot with a Canon HG10 using automatic settings. I used a
43 mm UV filter on the lens. The majestic blues were achieved while editing. I used the brightness and contrast plug in. I bumped up the contrast until I got the look I wanted.

Very cool. That pigeon should be scared :)

He was hanging on for dear life as the twenty mile an hour winds blew through. As I was filming the first scene I noticed the bird on the wire. After ten minutes on the first shot I turned the camera to get the second shot. I was in the right place at the right time....Just lucky to have noticed :)

Paul some help. When I export the files (video) from the HG10 to the computer with the provided software that came with it does it well. Once the files are in the computer I try to send those files to Sony Vegas Platinum 8, and it just doesn't recognized them. Do you know why? I'm I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.
  • Rick Winslow 3 months ago
Have you tried capturing the video from the camera directly into Vegas 8? You should have camera control there too.
  • Paul Klinger 3 months ago
Hi Jerry, do me a favor. Open up your copy of vegas. Click on the help menu then choose "About vegas studio platinum". Under the general tab write down the version and build number and post it here. Once I have that info we can move forward.

Very nice. I watched the HD version. Thought the pigeon was going to be engulfed in clouds. You hit the contrast right and gave the video a great feel. I'll say it again, very nice.

    Thanks Rick!

Thanks Paul and Rick, it was just a matter of uploading the new version of Sony Vegas. Sorry but I'm totally new with Sony Vegas and editing. thanks for your help.

Great choice of music. It looked AND sounded majestic! Usually power lines get in the way of a shot but I like your usage of them in this video. Good work!

Hi Scott, I am glad you enjoyed the video :)

I loved the visuals, but found the music a little cliche.
  • Paul Klinger 3 months ago
I am glad you liked the visuals.....as for the music, that is subjective. Not everyone will like everything. Thanks for commenting :)

really nice paul. great music as well made it dramatic
  • Paul Klinger 3 months ago
Hi Brian, I am glad you liked it. I debated whether, or not to use that particular music when I first edited together. The more I played it, the more it grew on me. Thanks for watching :)

Very nice work! Hope to be doing some clouds myself since it's now rainy season here, we have some awsome clouds.

Have you noticed any jumping or unusual results in fades editing in Vegas? I use Version 7.0e and had to limit my fades in wmv, the problem doesn't happen when I render to m2t.
  • Paul Klinger 3 months ago
Thanks for checking out the video! I am hooked on looking at time lapsed clouds. I am using version 8 and have not noticed any jumping when using fades. Good luck with your time lapses. :)

It's simply genius work, and for us mere normals, such genius is not simple. I so much enjoy this piece. Don't thank me for thanking you. Just keep up the art, and thanks for improving people's vision.

Paul, pardon me for poking in again so soon. I downloaded the WMA version to desktop. Plays OK.

Am quite sure by intuition, this will be a viral video, it will become beloved around the world. I've watched it a number of times. It all works. I don't generally like this "sort of stuff", but this time I do. So if it pleases a cynic like me, just imagine how well it will be like/revisited/savored by others. It's already a hit, over 500 views here today. Good for you, damn good. I'm so happy to say this first of all.
  • Paul Klinger 3 months ago
It is a little overwhelming to be honest. At first I thought there was something buggy going on, it is cool that something I made has touched so many in some way. I guess that is what pure art is.

Good stuff Paul and great to see another Kevin MacLeod fan. It must have taken ages to train that bird to sit still ;)

actually, that dove comes to the feeder everyday and thinks it owns my house. If other doves come to eat while he is there they get run off. He is feisty. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Paul,

How were you doing the time lapse? We're you importing it directly into a non-linear program?

  • Paul Klinger 3 months ago
Hi Matt, The timelapse was done in Sony Vegas Studio Platinum. Simply import the video into the time line then hold the control key down and grab the end of the video clip and pull the clip to the left until it won't go anymore. That speeds up the video :)
  • Borek Lupomesky 6 days ago
This only allows speed up by factor of 4. I wonder how to speed video more (like 10,20 or 40 times).

That's some dramatic footage with a Hitchcock feel! What's the music?
  • Paul Klinger 3 months ago
Thanks Michael! The name of the song is "Chase" by Kevin Macleod

Paul, for getting the best possible video do you use Eugenia's Sony Vegas tutorials? I did follow her tutorials but 03:00 minutes of footage takes approx 2 hours is that normal? As WMV 1280 x 720.
  • Paul Klinger 3 months ago
I guess that depends on your computer. It does seem that is a long time for a 3 minute video, but again it depends on your RAM, processor's speed, and your video card.
