33. Tofino - Vancouver Island, Canada. (part 1)
I spent 3 nights in Tofino at Eik Landing (Adrienne's Loft) eiklanding.com - which was a nice upgrade from the Hostel in Vancouver (Granville Street) where we had stayed earlier. The view from the apartment was pretty damn amazing. Tofino is a small town of 1.500 souls but receive over a million visitors a year (not a lot in April, though :).

It's situated on the Pacific coast and is at the very end of the only paved road that crosses the island (built during WWII). This is heaven if you ask me - I could settle here for the rest of my life :) I'd just need a faster Internet connection than the 256kbit one that the apartment had...

I'll be posting a few videos from here. If you're ever in the area, don't dare miss Tofino :)

Once again you came through with a really well done video. I am saving all your films because they are good, and they are made with my Cam, the HG10.

Thanks, Roger. I'll come to you then, if I'm ever in need of a back-up file :)

I hope you never need one, cause that might mean you lost a Hard Drive. ( I just lost 500 gigs last week with a power surge) Darn! Two projects that were on the timeline and almost finished!

Viking, I use Sony Vegas Platimun 8, in your knowledge what would be the best (settings) to keep the video as sharp as the original footage of the camera once transfered to vimeo. Is Eugenia's the best option? I used WMV format as Eugenia's tutorial, but 3 minutes took more than 2 hours is that normal? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jerry

A 3 minute clip takes me about 45 minutes with Eugenia's settings, so a computer with less processing power than my PC, could easily take more than 2 hours... The AVCHD format is VERY hard on a PC.

If you want better 'sharpness', try using a higher bit rate (like 6-10 or 7-10 mbps). Sharpen your clips with 'unsharp mask' using a setting of about 250,150,0). Unfortunately, our clips loose a lot of sharpness when they are made into .flv files (flash movie). If vimeo showed the clip as they were made (ex. WMV), quality would be better but people would need to have all the different players installed on their 'local' PC.

    Hope that helps...

Very nice place. Did someone jump from the plane at 7:21?
  • [ PIXEL VIKING ] plus 3 years ago
The plane kept coming around and dropping off 'stuff'. I think they were training dropping 'stuff' off :) Maybe they were fire fighters - The kind who get dropped right in the middle of things...

Was there a combo of MBL and camera filters used in this sequence? Contrast is looking excellent.
  • [ PIXEL VIKING ] plus 3 years ago
    Thank you.

No filters were used on the camcorder but I did use the free MBL on this. I believe, I used 'Buffalo' and 'Warmish' on this along with Sony Vegas' own unsharp mask...
