James Berry reads his poem 'Englan Voice' from IN PERSON: 30 POETS, filmed by Pamela Robertson-Pearce & edited by Neil Astley (Bloodaxe Books, 2008). Pamela has been filming poets reading their work for Bloodaxe's archive, website and DVD-books. This poem by James Berry is from his collection WINDRUSH SONGS (Bloodaxe Books, 2007). His book gives voice to the immigrants who came on the first ships from the Caribbean after the Second World War - people whose journeys held strange echoes of earlier sea voyages which had brought ancestors from Africa to the slave plantations. We filmed James Berry at his home in London in 2007.
