Short and simple visualisation of a 2D firefly simulation state changes over 300 time steps. The geometry is constructed by projecting re-synchronisation events in 2D at each time step (y-z axis) along a temporal sequence. Time runs along the x-axis (left to right in this case), so the 3D form is a fossil record of the 300 step simulation. The simulation begins chaotically, but quickly individual "sheets" become flatter and more closed and a repetitive structure emerges.
