I've often harped on about old crazy feet, but I appreciate the effectivenes of the design, good propellants on both water and land.

But, how can a moorhen swim so fast with those feet, there seems to be hardly anything about those feet that can offer any purchase to give them such swimming power.

Also, do Moorhens actually roost in trees? I'm sure that I've seen some in Stafford, it was dark, so I can't be absolutely sure that they were Moorhens.

Yep, they are pretty good swimmers alright, but I reckon coots can certainly outpace them - haven't seen them roosting in trees, however I have seen coots perching in overhanging pond side branches...

Thanks for putting that straight for me. Yes they were roosting on overhanging pond side branches, this made me think that these were one of the waterfowl.

What made me think that these were Moorhen was the design of the feet.

Thanks for the info, and sharing what is for me, a unique and privileged opportunity.
