A hearty congratulations to 2008/2009 season playwright and Writer/Director Lab alumnus Dan LeFranc for winning the prestigious New York Times Outstanding Playwright Award.
To celebrate, FEED, Soho Rep's Humanities program, has produced a slide show interview in which Dan speaks about his plays, his singular use of illustration and text, as well as the rewriting process. Learn about what stimulates this hyper imaginative writer and take a look at some of the influences that have gone into his plays, including the play the NY Times sited in their award, 'Sixty Miles to Silverlake'.
Dan LeFranc was born and raised in Southern California. His plays have been produced and developed across the country at institutions such as Page 73 Productions, Soho Rep, Catalyst Theater Company, Actors Theatre of Louisville, The Vineyard Theater, Woolly Mammoth Theater Company, Sundance Theatre Institute, MCC, The Kennedy Center, American Repertory Theatre, Portland Center Stage, ArsNova, Rattlestick, Clubbed Thumb, The Magic Theater, Babel Theatre Project, Perishable Theater, and Kitchen Dog Theater, among others. Dan is a member of New Dramatists, the MCC Playwrights Coalition, and an alumnus of the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab. Awards include commissions from Yale Rep and Berkeley Rep as well as the John C. Russell Fellowship in Playwriting. Dan received his BA from the University of California at Santa Barbara and his MFA from Brown University, where he has served as visiting faculty in Literary Arts and head playwriting instructor at the Brown/Trinity Rep Consortium. He currently lives in Providence, Rhode Island.
