Chatroulette is a new social phenomenon. It is a video/audio/text messaging system which connects you at random to one of the hundreds of thousands of people on the site. This random nature of the connections, and the capacity to entirely control your online persona have resulted in a very unique online culture. The aspect of this new form of interaction I found the most interesting was nexting. Everyone has their own criteria for nexting, but the speed with which they decide you don't meet it is sometimes so fast as to be preemptive. This machine has no criteria. It doesn't care what you look like, what you say or who you are.
