Maura Dooley reads two poems, 'What Every Woman Should Carry' and 'The Elevator', from the DVD-book IN PERSON: 30 POETS, filmed by Pamela Robertson-Pearce & edited by Neil Astley (Bloodaxe Books, 2008). Pamela Robertson-Pearce has been filming poets reading their work for Bloodaxe's archive, website and DVD-books. We will be posting further films of individual poets. These two poems by Maura Dooley are from her books SOUND BARRIER: POEMS 1982-2002 (Bloodaxe Books, 2002) and LIFE UNDER WATER (Bloodaxe Books, 2008). Maura Dooley lives in London. 'The Elevator' is a recent poem about an unexpected meeting with Leonard Cohen in a lift.
