Second video from the album NO GROUND UNDER (Ninja Tune).

Putting images on the music of this Montreal artist was a big challenge!
Bass, a mechanical construction, and a lot more Bass.
The creative process was the same as Ghislain's during the musical composition: a perpetual multiplication of elements to build a unique world.

Directed by Thibaut Duverneix: motion.departement.ca
Drawings: Gina Lassalvetat

Really? The only thing I couldn't figure out is how to do the animation of the guy in AE. I don't know how you would bend his arms like that. Then again, I don't have CS3 yet. Puppet tool maybe? Either way, it's beautiful.

I hope I'm not prying too much.
  • departement plus 1 year ago
    Puppet tool indeed!
And a lot of expressions and javascript.
    Thanks again.

Very nice indeed. My java script is a little wonky.

Nice to see the puppet tool being implemented. I haven't seen a lot of good examples of it being used yet.

    Thanks for sharing!

Out of curiosity, How long did that take to render out?

I ask, because I'm in the process of building a render farm and am curious as to what kind of render times other AE users are experiencing.
  • departement plus 1 year ago
the project was 80 hours of work and about 12 hours of rendering on the 24 inch new IMAC 2.6 core 2 duo with 4go of ram for the 1080p master.
There is lots of tricks to optimize render time a lot.

That's pretty impressive. I don't know if I'd be able to edit/animate something like that in two weeks;assuming you were working 40 hr weeks (who does that?).

Tricks? Is there perhaps a place where I could read about these tricks?
