1. A Day In the Woods
Made it a challenge to film rare moments in nature which may otherwise never be able to capture again. Went out to a wooded trail in the Twin Cities, Minnesota and here is what I got. Do leave me a thought or two.

Music by: Karunesh -- "Call of the Mystic" -- From Real Music

Brilliant! What effect filter was it that leaves the trails like that. I'm trying to think what you used. I have footages of those flies too but yours' is by far much more magical! Easy Fav!

Thanks rastAsia. No special effects added. It was all done inside the camera. The only exception is the color grading to make the greens and yellows pop out more.

you have to adjust the shutter speed and make it as slow as possible to get these trails.

Its a brilliant idea to have filmed these flies like that.

v!Nc3sl4s, turning down shutter speed does not leave trails like this. It would simply overexpose the whole footage since its allowing more light. Instead what I learnt Moua did was to turn off shutter speed and then slow down the 'film speed' to a desired effect with correct ISO. Anything lower than 24 fps will give you this long exposed trails with the iris wide open. The lower the fps, the longer the trail lines. And of course he captured it off focus for 'thicker' trail lines. Do correct me if I'm wrong Moua.

Moua, glad to see that you finally got this one uploaded - I've been checking all day for it and now at last its playable. Certainly worth waiting for: a truely sensational and unique view of nature - just those small things that we take little notice of, exemplified by your use of flying insects perfectly choreographed to the music and beautifully composed in the ~2.35:1 frame.

A wonderful and emotive video with which I believe you have fullfilled the challenge of capturing some of those rare moments in nature's boundless variety.

Looking forward to seeing some more of your work and hopefully you wont have the same problems uploading next time, all the best, Nigel.

Thank you Nigel. Indeed, most people will walk passed these little insects without given any thought of the significance they contribute to the beauty of the natural world. After observing their flight patterns and agility...I thought to myself, Man has yet to create and master such a flight as these tiny creatures who only have a few days to live. They are the true artists.

Very nice and poetic feeling. The narrow depth of field and focusing really worked in thie piece. Also nice music.

Moua Lee, you are a natural. You have a fantastic eye for details. You experiment but yet it fits in all the right place. You make great choices. Keep up the good work. You make good potential in capturing Nature at its best. Maybe you should try and take it a step further. Push yourself a bit more, I'm sure you will be able to come up with something that will inspire the world over to do something about our environment. Best of luck.

Thank you dpcheong. Means a lot coming from DOP who had done lots of major stuffs. Your videos had inspired me to push myself harder. Great works. I had thought about taking nature cinematography a step further. Perhaps I'll do a bit more research to see what opportunities are out there. Thank you for your encouragement and thanks for watching.

Moua Lee, the pleasure is all mine. Not that I did too much but the truth of the matter is such, you do have a niche for it and I am very sure you will go further. So go out there and have fun, explore and create but most of all enjoy what you are doing. The results will show when you have fun.
Write to me anytime if you think I can be of any help.
    All the Best
