nice work! like the btbam inclusion. though, im curious as to whether or not the main character was the same as the voiceover guy and why the decision to make the screen abnormally long was made? still, really nice stuff!

love the film, how did you do the running and filming ? looks so smooth
  •
  • Cristian Beltramo 3 years ago
You kept a replica-quality of the 28 days/months later movie! The camerawork, the acting, ambient sounds, makeup and outfits were all just *perfect*. I would have liked to hear some infected sounds for a more dramatic effect on the chases, though!
Nice stuff you made there :)

Great job in all aspects, except for the foley work. Sometimes the sound effects seemed too loud or it seemed like there should've been sound effects when there weren't (Like in 2:44, it jarred me pretty bad when you were running and I didn't hurt boots stomping or anything)

So it begs the question, was it hasty foley, or was it deliberately done to counterpoint the video distortion.

wonderful, my only issue is the muzzle flashes. during daylight it is very difficult to see a muzzle flash, and the whole screen lighting up ruins it for me. it would be more appropriate indoors, but i understand that it was probably an airsoft replica. try putting a tiny bit of baby powder in the barrel and actually firing the bb's (black bb's so they wont be seen), that way with the high shutter speed it will look a bit more convincing. otherwise it was phenomenal.
  •
  • Steve Burns 3 years ago
awesome job buddy, well done. Cinematography, editing, makeup, costume, was fantastic.

Did you shoot some scenes with a high shutter speed? I noticed the erratic sort of look like in the shots of the infected from 28 Days Later or the intro to Saving Private Ryan.

Well done again mate, thanks for sharing.

This is awesome. Excellent cinematography and the actor's voice is excellent. However I feel like the titles and the screamo music really detracts from the overall experience.
  •
  • Isaac Gilligan 3 years ago
I enjoyed the effect this movie had. The thing one I was hoping was at the dramatic scenes the music seemed to drown out the combat scenes. One moment I wish the sound was a little less was at the near end scene inside the house with the infected man and his gun jams. This has to be one of the best pictures i've seen. The style and effects were awesome! I'd love to see a sequel! I agree with Jeremy above, the metal music didn't seem to mesh as well with the film. (Band Of Brothers really reminded me of this, the music wassuttle and at dramatic points high and suspenseful, but still only in the background.)

great camera work, good edit and nice look and feel to the film but the zombies look a bit crap, the muzzle flashes arent up to scratch and the sound design is awful, a good sense of space would have been far more effective than laying music over every scene

Wow, this is really great, some of the best stuff I've seen on the HVX, a very fitting pastiche of Danny Boyle's work on the XM2 in the original 28 days.

The thing I was most impressed with (this may sound silly) was the 4 zombies falling on the train tracks, really lifelike! How did they do this?!

While I think the film was beautifully shot, and quite well edited, my one word of constructive criticism would be to spend more time on sound. Sound is 70% of the movie experience, and ESPECIALLY when you have guns/military/action themes at stake, you need to have well-mixed sound and deadly realistic sound effects.

Some different, and more intense gunshot sounds would have been nice. Some soft reload/gun-handling sounds would have been cool too. I also felt the zombie sounds could be harsher and scarier....

The film is awesome, and looks stunning, just giving you my two cents on the entire "experience", which is obviously something you guys are aiming for.

Mordecai! Great execution when the song drops. Although, I do feel like this particular video would have benefited from having its own original and fairly uniform soundtrack. Just to help further push the envelope of the full length feel you were going for.

    In any case. Great vid.

I thought this was very well done. If you were to re-edit this I would suggest renaming the "session" to a journal entry and have it from the point of view of the soldier running from the infected. Like Journal Entry 4 Today was a close encounter, then showing the scene where he has a close enounter with the zombie on the hill.

This is a great film, very well done. It really did look almost like it was 28 Days (or Weeks) Later. Very very good technique.

Dude, amazing. I am envious, because my 7D would not be able to pan or move that quickly, due to all that fun rolling shutter stuff. I love the grading, too. How did you possibly get the lens so wide? It's like, crazy wide.

Excellent camera work. I do agree that the sound needs a bit of TLC, but overall great job, and I think I once had that airsoft M4.

My only plot hole theory is, if its only been 8 days, you wouldnt really need to hunt or look hard for water, if you're already searching houses. But that is neither here nor there.

    Great work!!

This is one of the first films that I saw on Vimeo and one that really got me interested in the craft.

I would love to see this revisited with completely different audio. I love the music, but the sound is very much behind the rest of the film in quality.

i love zombie movies, but i had to stop part way through session 4. it was all just run shoot run shoot. let it build a little, give the characters some tangible goals.

maybe its cause ive been watching the walking dead on amc... that show is damn good
