2010 Community Arts Award, Chairmans Award Recipient: Lionel Ferbos
Lionel Ferbos - At 98, Mr. Ferbos is the oldest jazz musician in New Orleans. He was born July 17, 1911, and has played at all of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festivals. At the age of 15, he started playing the trumpet. He still holds down a regular gig at the Palm Court. He has played with numerous jazz legends, including Harold Dejan, Captain John Handy, Mamie Smith, and more.
The Arts Council of New Orleans each year celebrates the Community Arts Awards. Since 1977, the Community Arts Awards have recognized living individuals, organizations and corporations which have made outstanding contributions to the arts in New Orleans. Recipients are continue selected for their artistic excellence, sustained contributions, unique achievements, perseverance, and a deep commitment to the arts and local community.
