7. Iceland, Eyjafjallajökull - May 1st and 2nd, 2010

Update: I will be helping teach a time-lapse workshop in Iceland in September! See details here: bit.ly/aWSc4t

So I saw all of these mediocre pictures of that volcano in Iceland nobody can pronounce the name of, so I figured I should go and do better. But the flights to get over took forever as expected (somewhat). 4 days after leaving I finally made it, but the weather was terrible for another 4. Just before leaving it got pretty good for about a day and a half and this is what I managed to get.

Wish I had more time. I missed all the cool Lightning and the Lava of the first eruption. But I figure this will just be a trial run for another day.

I am of course accepting sponsors to send me back there for more please...!! haha

Music: Jónsi - Kolniður (jonsi.com)
Canon 5d mkII
HUGE thanks for the Motorized Dolly via MILapse (vimeo.com/milapse).
UPDATE 05/18: New video showing the dolly I used. Pre-Orders soon! vimeo.com/11835819

  •
  • Daniel Peters plus 4 months ago
love it...so you using the kessler? wish I could afford that baby unless you know someone that hires out?

love the airplane shots, did you know it was there or were you like...ooh nice i'll check that out ha
  • Sean Stiegemeier plus 4 months ago
ive been looking for that airplane every time i go to iceland. found it this time, and there just happens to be a cano spitting out ash behind it

not a kessler. they wouldnt help me.
dolly was from MILapse... soon to be released...
  • Daniel Peters plus 4 months ago
im such a spazz ha...you mentioned what you used at the top haha..you know a rough idea on pricing for the milapse?

also what wide lens did you use on this?
  • Sean Stiegemeier plus 4 months ago
16-35 2.8 L seriers... milapse dolly I think is coming in at half the price of the kessler package (to give you an idea) but I have not heard the final details yet. im looking forward to getting the final as well!
  • Daniel Peters plus 4 months ago
ha really weird I just ordered the L series 16-35mm but I also just ordered a pocket dolly from kessler with the cheaper motor as I couldnt afford the big daddy and now you say the MiLapse will be half the price...ha damn

also thanks for replying man, means alot since you have so many comments here

keep blowing us away with your work (would also be awesome to go with ya on one and document it with my 5Dmkii)
  • Adam Kroupa 2 days ago
MiLapse said this on YouTube: " It's looking like $795 for the six footer with the MX2 controller =) " .. just wanted to tell you, if you dont know yet :)
  • Daniel Peters plus 2 days ago

    Sean -
Here's an idea. Have you considered creating a digital coffee-table book of Iceland? This might be a little ahead of the times, but readers like the iPad could pave the way for you to create things like that. Each "page" could be a different video scene of an Icelandic location. Just a thought and something I've been wanting to do for a while now.
