I recently rented a Chevy Impala for a weekend and was generally unsatisfied with the car.

The positives that I did not mention in the video: Lots of legroom (important for me) and a pretty smooth ride.

I had to reupload this clip because it didn't convert to flash properly. All the previous comments got deleted.

They were mostly about my beard and the fact that the video was broken.

Was the interior light on when you were pointing out the radio/air console? BEARD PRIDE!

heh. I think the graphical symbol representing a negative Dalas Verdugo review should be Cigarette crapping on the item that got the bad review.

I've often been perplexed by some of the user interfaces that certain cars have. Some are so completely counterintuitive that I suspect they were designed by non-hominids.

I think I would get annoyed at exactly the same things you did. Two controls for the same thing is just stupid, especially when they're next to eachother. It would almost make sense if one control was for the driver, and one for the passenger, but a) That would clearly just lead to fights over what it should be set too, and b) Why would the controls be right next to eachother!!!

I agree, that car's controls and information (even the pictures for the information) are rubbish.

my car is from 1989 and it allows me to set separate air temperature for the driver and the co-driver.
you have to understand this just regulates the temperature of the air that gets blown at the passenger. it's not an ingenious machine that lets you control the worlds climate. if you are worried separate air streams could lead to too many fights, you probably shouldnt buy any car, nor rent one.

and i also dont get the logic. why would one control not lead to fights? does one control mean the driver sets it, no one argues?

sorry, this got a bit sarcastic, but hey it's 2:30AM

co-driver? your car has two steering wheels? weird :)

The temperature in the car was always either too hot or too cold, which led to needing to adjust the overall temperature of the car, which meant trying to adjust two controls at the same time, which was annoying.

I don't understand why not liking this system means I should never buy or rent a car? Some cars have different systems, or they have more consistent temperatures and do not require constant adjustment.

There were no fights in the car.

I was referring to to the fade and balance controls for the stereo mainly - hypothesising that if there was a control on each side of the car it would lead to fights (I'm just used to driving with my sisters who I know would adjust it when I wasn't looking). But the two controls aren't on opposite sides of the car, they're next to eachother which makes even less sense!

I understood from the begining about the temperature controls, but I see Dalas' point for that about how it would be annoying if you're driving on your own trying to use two controls at once.

In my world if there is only one control - being the drivers - there are not arguments because it is always DRIVERS CHOICE!

I have to agree with all of the comments/complaints. But, the most bothersome was the slow to go thing! At times that was down right frightening : ) When you think abou it, the wiper wiggle is pretty amazing. I mean how big is the motor on the windshield wipers? Pretty amazing that it could jiggle the entire car. Oh well, overall we survived the experience.

I think this is really funny, especially since my dad and I rented a Chevy Impala when we drove from Minnesota to New Jersey looking at colleges a couple years ago, and we loved the separate temperature controls. That way I could have nice warm air blowing on me (I get cold easily) and he got to his freezing air.

And it's so true about driving to and from the coast and needing your headlights. Going over the Cascades is not fun with limited visibility.

I'm glad you commented. It's good to have another opinion on this page.

I got a laugh out of this. I'm generally amazed by new cars (because mine is an old beater Honda) but I don't understand why people make/buy cars whose primary functions fall second to random unnecessary crap that doesn't even look good. Look at an old Mercedes or Volvo... still totally stylish AND functional! also, rental cars have this really uncomfortable sterile feel that bothers the hell out of me.

unrelated: i have nothing negative to say about mid-60s impalas.
