Ink on Sky (2010), single channel video, running time 4:00 seamless loop
The distinction between figuration and abstraction is largely a matter of scale. In Ink on Sky, the perceived sense of scale is purposefully manipulated. The driving force behind a symbolic narrative is a series of directed phase transitions. A spidery web of vapor crystalizes into heat. A sun in an infinite blue sky is severed by a minute gesture of a drop of ink. A mineral spills into the atmosphere. The imagery evokes the impossible juxtaposition of natural phenomena, yet all frames are synthesized from pure Platonic mathematical forms.
