Aiptek A-HD+ and Jazz HDV-178 w/ wide angle lens test
4 months ago
Took 4 shots and combined them together.
The Aiptek A-HD+ had the Digital Concepts 0.45 'Large' Magnetic Wide Angle Lens.
The Jazz HDV-178 had the Phoenix M-Power 0.45 'Small' Magnetic Wide Angle Lens.
1. Aiptek A-HD+ @ 1080p (1440x1080) 30fps ~7.5Mbps
2. Aiptek A-HD+ @ 720p 60fps ~6Mbps
3. Aiptek A-HD+ @ 720p 30fps ~4Mbps
4. Jazz HDV-178 @ 720p 30fps ~4Mbps
Remuxed the Aiptek footage with Yamb to switch the container from .mov to .mp4. Not needed for Jazz's .avi files since they behave with Sony Vegas.
Edited with Sony Vegas and rendered to 720p 30fps 6Mbps WMVHD.
A few things I noticed right away..
* The A-HD+ in 1080p mode is more 'zoomed' in than 720p.
* For some reason, in the process of converting the 1080p footage down to 720p, the image became blurry. The original footage looks much much better.
* There's more artifacts in 1080p mode.
* There's a significantly more artifacts and the colors are much more saturated on the Jazz HDV-178.

interesting tests, but what's most apparent is the amount of abberation the WA adapters cause in the edges of the frames.
What are the equivalent (35mm) focal lengths of the cameras at their widest without the adapters?
I encourage all A-HD plus enthusiasts to head over to my new Aiptek group (Vimeo just started a Groups function this week) and post demos like this over there. Instead of starting over, you can just go to your own video's details and add it to the group once you've joined.
