The 12th General Election did not only result in the change of government in four states or the lost of Barisan Nasional two-thirds majority in Parliament. It brought along many practices never seen before in the governmant system. In Selangor, a body under the state assembly was formed to monitor the use of public funds.

In the federal Parliament the increasing presence of opposition representatives has resulted in more serious debates. Today, UMNO and Barisan Nasional has started speaking the language of change. However, the real reform process is not as easy as voting on polling day.

This documentary discusses the meaning behind those promised changes. Info on KOMAS - komas.org

Selepas Tsunami is also available in Mandarin, Tamil, and Iban language.

The documentary is truly an eye-opener in providing "real" insights of how the dynamics of the so-called principle of "democracy" is being practiced in Malaysia, a country claiming to be "democratic" but not in the actual sense. More and more of such videos should be made to educate the public and to put pressure upon the government to demand imminent and positive changes. If the country continues to do what it has been doing and harping on racial issues, it will soon lose its significance in the global stage. Many good and potential Malaysians are being sidelined. Prominent and dramatic changes have to be made. The government should start to employ qualified Malaysians to take up public service positions rather than to reserve them to those who cannot perform it well. In other countries, people want to work in the government departments but in Malaysia, the situation is not so. No point having beautiful skyscrapers and having millions of tourists flock to Malaysia yearly to see them when the country is robbing from its own people. The true meaning of democracy is "government for the people". What Malaysia has been practising is "government for the selected few".

I got the Eng/BM, Tamil and Chinese versions and will be introducing them to family and friends. If each of us can do a little bit, even by just creating awareness, we'll be making this country a little better for all Malaysians. Hidup komas!

This is a long shot and may sound overly optimistic, but in all seriousness, you guys should try and find a way to get yourselves nominated under the Documentary Short Subject category of the Academy Awards. (Obviously, I trust you guys would be submitting to film festivals as it is.)
