2. HDR test with a Red cam 3d rig
Shot with our 3d MegaRig set to zero IO with 2 Red One cameras that have not been upgraded to MX. 2 Ruby lens set to 16mm. 1 camera opened up to f4 the other at f20...resulting in a depth of field disparity, but not that bad, should've used ND I know. Then we put them together in After Effects CS4 using some tricky luma key.

I was wondering when this idea would find it's way to the light of day

Really interesting. I knew it would just be a matter of time before this made it to video.

That is a very clever use for a stereo rig. Looks beautiful.

  • Great test, thank you... With the MX this will be even better...

Wow. Just think what some tone mapping could do for a horror film.

This looks like a great way to cram even more visual information into a frame.

But does not really good photographic storytelling involve *removing* visual information?
  • E3D Creative plus 1 year ago
Yes it does. Our goal is to get the whole story into 1 pixel, although an HDR pixel :)

Thanks for the comments. We will be posting more motion HDR later this week.

  • Great result! In my opinion that's the first time a 3D rig really made sense.

what are you using in cs5 to combine the two images, there is a better, way, i am doing the same thing right now, and my work flow took me about 4 months to figure out nice but i got it now, i hope the style that i am creating will be the new wave of the future, i should have a sample up in about 2 months, or shorter, i have a sample now but i dont think it is got all the bugs out of it yet, check out my vids, and see what you think, all the vids i have up are the old style i learnd to get where i am now, add me up on facebook plz i would like to know other ppl working on this so we can all be friends

Fantastic! I can see HDR has some interesting applications for getting wide HDR scenes without have to light NY city when 3pm harsh shadows are killing the shot.....nice!

I'm trying to do something similar right now. It would be awesome if you could share what your process was in combining the exposures in after effects. Thanks for the inspiration!
