Another project combining poetry, music and images.

The poem is the work of my friend -- Selena Ibanez -- who is the queen of words. I must mention here, that she did this LIVE, just spilled the words out of nowhere. She's real gifted :)

My husband did the filming, as usual. He is so lovely, because he shot some of the footage specifically for the words in the poem. He put up with my pestering too ha ha ha.

I just did the music using Acid and put everything together in Vegas.

I hope you enjoy it!

    I love it!
I really like the way you guys put everything together
and come up with such a wonderful piece of work.
    GREAT STUFF!

    Very nice work Lydia.

I usually don't like little added effects like the tv mask/static but I thought it definitely added dimension to the piece. I could have done without the effect at 1:15 and at the end because it was a little distracting to me, but overall the piece was nice and fluid and the close shots all worked really well together.
  • Lydia Kurnia 1 year ago
Ah yes, the portal effects. I should probably leave that one out too, Blake hehe. I just wanted to have the image spill over the screen (for 'Air' and 'Earth'), I could probably think of some other effects, but too lazy to search hehe.

Thank you so much for the comment and compliment. I'm new to this thing so all this attention just blew me away!

    yeah really nice imaging ...

was the black framing part of the edit prog or the adapter showing ??

what lens do you use and what adapter ?

any info how you did it will be great
    help

    thnx
  • Glenn (avene.org) 1 year ago
Haha, no, the black framing was definitely NOT from the adapter! I painted that in Photoshop Elements for Lydia because the rectangular gradient border thing she was using around the outside looked nasty.

The adapter is an SG Pro from shoot35.com. It provides a more accurate 35mm like bokeh (blur) you don't get from most other adapters. The lenses are all Nikon.. I think mostly an f1.4 50mm here, with an f2.8 135mm being used for the opening shot.
  • Anthony Johnson 1 year ago
thanks, i do like black framing, but your one seemed a little harsh.. maybe more blurred would work better.. but thats only my taste :-) i still think you did a great job with the images !!

one last thing how did you get the neon lights to stream ..what app did you use .. and what plug in :-)

    thanks again
  • Lydia Kurnia 1 year ago
Hey Anthony. Ha, this one I can answer, cause I did that hehe... I used Light Rays and Lens Flare effects in Sony Vegas. I made the flashing in time with the music too. I hope that works.

And thanks for liking it. It means a lot to me :D
  • Anthony Johnson 1 year ago
    nice !

but now i have to figure out how to do it in fcp or after effects lol .. i use a mac

    def works :-)
  • Glenn (avene.org) 1 year ago
Anthony, it's not what you use, it's what you can do with what you use I always tell people!

    Lydia,

Thanks for your work and creating this piece. I just got Vegas last week. It's installed but I haven't really cracked it.

My wife and I were just blown away by the music and with the video, it is a very powerful piece. I have to check out Acid...Whew!

Thank you and the others that put this together. Wonderful. My son, a composer and artist, will see it when he gets home from school today!
  • Lydia Kurnia 1 year ago
Wow, thank you for the kind words, Jorj.

Yes, Vegas and Acid are really easy to use, although I cannot say I have mastered all the tricks yet. I am still learning a lot too from my husband hehe. But that's pretty much what we talk about most times these days "How do you ...." :)

Thanks again for the comment. I am happy you liked it, and I hope your son likes it too :)

Thanks, Lydia. You have thrown gasoline on the flaming urge to create video and music!! and I'm sure will inspire my 15 year old composer son, too.

Lydia. You guys did a great job. Blake mentioned about about the effect on air and earth, but I liked it on this. I do agree I wouldnt over use it :)

now ya have me thinking about trying Acid (wait that dosent sound right...lol) to make my own music for videos. Thanks
  • Lydia Kurnia 1 year ago
Thanks heaps, Brian. That means a lot to me :)
  •
  • Very creative visuals and words ... I don't usually like loads of effects, but I must admit it works here, mainly because they're part of the creative message.

    Overall, clever and enjoyable :-)

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words, Chris, and for adding the video to your channel. That's a great compliment. I am deeply touched.

  • Lydia Kurnia 1 year ago
Thank you Radthanael. My husband certainly has a good eye, but the words aren't mine :) They're my friend's - Selena's - and she certainly is gifted.

I just put them together and did the music :D

Bringing poetry back into our lives: very well concieved by nice teamwork.
I must admit, but it's maybe just me, I had some difficulty to stay tuned on the poem or the visuals at the same time. Text to small? Visuals to predominant? Blake is right: a bit distracting, let's say confusing for the mind. Vignettes aren't realy my thing.
Remember only very good video art will recieve some tune up from the humble me. But be sure: I love it :)
  •
  • Lydia Kurnia 1 year ago
    Thank you, Pierre.

Yes I agree, it must be a case of info-overload, or perhaps my cheeky attempt to force you all to watch this over and over and over again... once for the words, once for the music, once for the visuals... hehe. Yes, I will watch out for that vignetting in my next projects. Awesome advice!

    Thank you again :)
  • Pierre 1 year ago
That's what art is about: you have to think it over a few times before you stat getting it, hihihi...
Nice little piece of art from both, or should I say you three.

Nice work. The most beautifull is the music. Your friend did the "words live" does that mean...first there was the video and the she found words?
I'm a little bit sorry, but I dont think the words are that poetic and unique...they are a bit to worn-out to me and trivial. I hope you can handle a comment like this.....
  • Lydia Kurnia 1 year ago
Thank you Adrenalin, I appreciate all comments :) nothing is too harsh believe me :) Well when I said live, we were just chatting on IM and I told her what images I had and she just typed up some words as we chatted. So no she hadn't seen the piece at all, I ended up putting things together to match the words eventually.
