Dynamic Perception's mission is to provide low-cost and easy-to-use photographic motion control systems.

Sean Stiegemeier used our prototype v2.1 to produce his stunning footage of the Iceland volcano ( vimeo.com/11673745 ) and the results speak for themselves!! We have made significant improvements in v2.2 which is our pre-production model. The final product will have even more improvements!

Horizontal, inverted, diagonal, upside-down, and even sideways the setup possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Quick release and ability to use as a slider to preview and adjust your track position before starting your timelapse move. Easy to use and VERY flexible motor controller (see links to 'tours' above ). Available in 6' length.

will there also be an option for a rotation motor on the camera or can a milapse head be used with the dolly for this?

absolutely! we're working on a pan|tilt stage but you could totally drop a milapse head on for now. ;-)

Will you sell an optional motor for video speeds?
    How much will this cost?
  • Shadi Eideh 1 year ago
does the controller have a program for video motion ? can you point to the source of a motor that you would recommend for buying for video ?

This is really killer Jay. Why not attach the Milapse name to this though? Kinda has some clout when it comes to moco timelapse you know.

Is the dolly track one piece?
  • c.a. church 1 year ago
Hi Dustin, yes the track is one-piece for right now, but any length up to about 12' can be gotten. We're working on making the track extensible in the field, without also requiring new belts for every length. When released, it will likely be fixed length, with a couple of parts added to the line-up afterward to make it extensible.
  • MILapse 1 year ago
It's a little confusing... I never really set out to associate the meade head, it just happened organically. Since this is our product and we have many more stages, controllers, drivers, etc. on the way. We didn't want this line to be confused with something that we don't even produce!
  • Dustin Farrell plus 1 year ago
I would love to be able to purchase track in like 3' increments and piece them together in the field. Portability is huge for me in my next moco purchase.
  • MILapse 1 year ago
We're testing lighter 2' sections that interlock together! ;-)
  • Dustin Farrell plus 1 year ago
2' interlocking sections that resulted in a smooth track would be a must have for me. I planning on shooting some locations that will require a pack mule!! Six foot dolly track on a pack mule would be fuckin' funny tho'. Ha!

Any chance to have a non-continuous movement? (for long exposure time...) :)
  • c.a. church 1 year ago
The kit being offered will be a continuous-motion kit. It can be made to do shoot-move-shoot with some effort on the purchaser's part. We are working on a ready-to-buy OpenMoco Engine that will come out after the kit. The OM engine will enable shoot-move-shoot and much, much more.

In the mean-time, the support for DC motor shoot-move-shoot and hybrid motion types are being added to the OM engine software as we speak. One could build a DIY OM Engine if they're not ready to wait for a production version. See openmoco.org =)

I'm hooked. Although I would use it mainly with an still camera, I'd also like to possibly use it with a Red ONE and then Red Epic whenever that happens. Will it support stripped down cameras of this size with a 4 lb. Cartoni head?

Could you tell me exactly how much weight that would be? I'm going to do some weight testing this week since we've had a lot of questions surrounding the R3D.

Hey thanks! you should explore the timescapes.org forum for TONS of information about timelapse
  •
  • Eos Karlsson 1 year ago
    wow.. fast answer:)
then i might as well ask..
can you push dolly manually (by hand).. like the way you work with a normal one?
  • MILapse 1 year ago
It's very easy to dis-engage the belt by un-locking one of the belt clip holders so it slides and create slack. Then you simply take the belt off the pulley system and move the 'cart' freely. We honestly don't know what makes a good/bad video slider so for now I'd say it could be used in a pinch. We'll let the experts tell us how good/bad it is for that use... We're primarily time-lapse and moco people!

Does it "feather" start and stop ?
Is it available in the UK ?
Will it take the weight of a Panasonic HVX200 ?
  • MILapse 1 year ago
The initial motor controller will be a basic accurate speed/direction controller BUT it will have the capability to connect to the upcoming OpenMoco engine. Once connected to OpenMoco feathering is only the tip of the ice-burg! Shipping world-wide. HVX200 should be no problem what-so-ever.
  • MILapse 1 year ago
and seriously I mean THE tiniest tip of the ice-burg!!

I have a project involving documenting the industrial ruins of Detroit.
I plan on incorporating some timelapse/HDR timelapse into it. Should be fairly high profile once completed. Got some loner gear from various manufacturers. Would you be interested in having me beta test/use one of your prototypes. Canon used a bunch of my footage at NAB this year. Could be some great exposure for your product.
  •
  • Phil Marchand plus 1 year ago
Does the controler just set the dolly speed or does it also control camera intervals?

Also with a DSLR weight could you get away with one tripod?
  • MILapse 1 year ago
The introductory model will come with a motor driver to accurately set the speed. That driver will be able to connect/interface with the forthcoming OpenMoco.org engine. Once connected to the engine, control of the camera is only the tip of the iceburg. I would have to go on for quite a while here to cover all the features of the engine... =)

IF you went with a 4' section and your tripod IS STRONG ENOUGH. yes.

hope you have it available by august... have a burning man project and would love to use it (ideally after having tested it before in miami)...
speaking of burning man: how do you expect it to perform/last in a dusty (well, sometimes VERY dusty) environment?
  • MILapse 1 year ago
August shouldn't be a problem. Dust shouldn't be much of a problem as well. I'd suggest to make sure you don't get too much buildup and maybe have a blower handy so you can do a little cleaning without touching the rig.
  • cool.pool.media 1 year ago
thanks for the reply. i see you have not been at burning man, :-). not meant badly and understand if it will not be perfect. dust storms at burning man are, well, real dust storms. it would be amazing to shoot inside the duststorm, where as the dust lifts and settles you see what is "behind" the dust, and at the same time get the feeling that the dust is coming at you. again, i totally understand if the rig is not meant for that and maybe it is better to just make it a time lapse from a (very sturdy) tripod... can't wait to use it.
  • c.a. church 1 year ago
Dust, generally, will not be an issue for the dolly. Much more an issue for your camera. After a week of hauling one of the prototypes around in my jeep (no top), dragging it down dusty trails, it was fairly coated but still functioning. What it ultimately will result in in break-down of the bushings and belt, with the possibility of breakdown in motor shaft bearings if not cleaned regularly. Just blow it off a couple of times a day.

Jay, do you have a release date?
the up coming openmoco engine system will that be a seperate controller, controling not only the slider but the camera intervals or will this have to be operated on a laptop? curious how well this can be used for mountain photography?
    I'm excited
  • MILapse 1 year ago
We're pushing the ball forward! You're mostly correct, The openmoco engine will be a separate controller that can communicate with the dolly controller. We're planning on having a basic interface on the engine and the engine can run autonomously but it will also have serial communication for hand-held devices as well as netbooks. Extremely expandable and don't forget open source for 3rd party developers!
