A short film made during a three week residency in Shanghai hosted by Shanghai University of Fine Arts and Kingston University.
I am taught how to knit Chinese style by the women that I met in the photographic processing and lottery shop. The shop recently made someone a millionaire through the lottery so it had been renamed the lucky shop by the locals.
The Interplay between communism and capitalism is probed as the women move seamlessly from the hand that creates to the hand that makes millionaires.
I was interested in using craft and my skills as an artist as an alternative language of communication.
