Garrett was with a group of boys who allegedly were throwing eggs at cars along Hilliard Rome Road. Someone came up behind them and shot Burton in the head.

Investigators asked anyone who uses Hilliard Rome Road during the late-night or early morning hours to call them.

"Whoever did this -- whoever you are -- I wish you would man up and turn yourself in," George Burton, Garrett's father, said. "Until then, as far as I'm concerned, you are a coward."

The Fraternal Order of Police Foundation established a reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction of the murderer.

Garrett Burton Jr. was the son of a CPD officer and was killed during the early morning hours of August 30, 2008.

The reward was up to $2,000.

Officers specifically were interested in talking with anyone who remembered seeing someone running from the area at any time in the weeks leading up to the shooting.
