SGS 2-33 Dancing over the Desert
Soaring with a SGS 2-33 from Sky Sailing in Warner Springs California. Location Warner Springs, video captured from 6500-10100 feet (2000-3000 meter).
The Schweizer SGS 2-33 is a very typical two seat trainer, most glider pilots in the USA have spend time in a 2-33, this is a light plane and while it have a pretty un-exciting glide performance it climbs nicely, and more important its a very forgiving plane to fly, its also a very solid airframe which can survive endless student landings. These shots were captured from a Grob 103 with a Panasonic SD1 to SD card and edited with Vegas 8 Pro.
SkySailing.com in Warner Springs California was the location of the Region 12 contest earlier this year - click here for a collection of videos from the contest days. vimeo.com/album/12568

aaroneous 1 year agoThere's got to be some comfort knowing that you don't need an engine to land that thing. Pretty cool. -

1 year ago Aaroneous, the thing with ALL kinds of flying is "Take off is optional - landing is mandatory" eventurally everything arrives back on the ground. Gliders have more control over the glide path compared to most aircrafts and it is actually a very simple process sticking it where you want to go. The part which always amazes me is the huge lift in the desert, the plane in the video is circling to catch up-lift created from hot air raising up in a bubbly funnel shape. The Pilot clearly feel in the plane when passing through the rising air and put the plane into a tight turn to stay in the lift, staying there will bring the plane higher, often many thousands of feet in one Thermal. -
Felipe Bachian 1 year agoWow!!! That's the way to fly!!! Thanks for share it, just amazing! -

1 year ago Hello Felipe, Thank you for the comment, it IS the way to fly, one can fly for hours using the thermal and wave energy nature generates. If you have not tried it yet, I can highly recommend finding the nearest gliderport and get in a plane. -
