This has to be one of the best music video's I've ever seen. The kids are funny, and stopping the music for the punch is a cool twist.

  •
  • What's with the stutter and the jump in the framing?
  • are you talking about the end of the video? there are freeze frames and jump cuts in the fight... and there's jump cuts throughout...
  • Michael Couch 1 year ago
Notice that they all happen right a impacts in the fight. It adds to the effect.

Great music video! I saw some of that rolling shutter... Did you have a lot of issues with that? I shot with a 7D and find I can't/won't take it off some kind of tripod or something stable. All in all I love the video, just hate seeing that rolling shutter.
  • with fast pans you are going to get rolling shutter, but since mine were part of a chaotic fight scene i didn't really care too much about it... there's a rolling shutter plugin you can use in after effects to remove it, but i didn't even bother with it because i liked it... it added to the fast paced feel of the scene, but in instances where you absolutely don't want it, you either have to pan slower or fix it in post...

as far as keeping it stable... i think it's all circumstantial... there were a bunch of handheld shots in this video and most weren't effected... i went handheld for this other video vimeo.com/11929857 for every shot and i think it's pretty stable, so yeah... just practice, add some weight to the cam, and practice some more...
  • oh and thanks for liking the vid!

Hey man thanks for the response! I was wondering how itnis recording audio with a zoom mic? Do u find u have to search through all of yur recorded audio to get the track that matches with the right take? Or is there some way to keep track of what recorded audio is for what clip? I'm really looking into getting better audio for my t2i and I'm stuck between getting a zoom or some kind of beechteck adapter.
  • Devin Hardy 1 year ago
just like they did in the old days...gotta have someone say take 1...clap so you sync the clap audio with the clap in the video and your audio and video match
  • yeah, just like how devin said... it's helpful to have a PA take notes on which take corresponds to which audio file number, as well...

if you're going t2i and want awesome audio for a scripted piece, i would definitely recommend the zoom h4n over the beachteck...

this method, however, is not great at all for documentary/behind the scenes/run-n-gun audio needs... I would then recommend you go the adapter route or simply attach a microphone directly to the camera... you'd be surprised how solid the audio is from just connecting a sennheiser mke 300 or canon dm100 (i've personally heard examples from the mke300, but not the dm100)... this method is not for audiophiles whatsoever, but surprisingly damn solid results...

Did you film this in 1080p? I did not see any aliasing problems. I heard the aliasing only show up in 720p recordings?

    Anyway great video A+
  • RockySmokey 1 year ago
One other thing the rolling shutter problem does that come from the CMOS chip? And would a CCD chip work better?
  • thanks buddy! shot in 1080p... yeah it's from the CMOS...

That was great! If you don't mind me asking, what was the style profile settings you used? Did you do a lot of color correction or were you getting those tones out of the camera? Looks absolutely lovely!!!
  • definitely color corrected this sucker... i wouldn't ever leave something uncolored... not a fan of it... i have to double check exactly what the settings were... let me get back to ya on that one...

Perfect combination of narrative and song. I hate that crap where it constantly cuts from some band playing in a warehouse and some bullshit story.

    Playful, fun, loved it.
