OFFICIAL SELECTION - CANADIAN SPORT FILM FESTIVAL

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND YOUR NICE COMMENTS! WE APPRECIATE IT!

It was just my brother and me travelling to the Nürburgring with two cams, four lenses and a tripod on the backseat. Intention was to capture the atmosphere, the tension and the incredible challenge for teams and drivers. Back home, the two of us did all the editing, sound design, color correction and artwork.

Congratulations to the Schnitzer BMW Team! Watch this film also on stereoscreen.de/24h.

Here´s the track list:

The whole thing starts with "Hoppipolla!" by Sigur Ros. Then phenomenal Hecq with "Dayout". I also used "Holler" and "FdK". Hecq is incredible good to cut on and does a lot of sounddesign - check out his page... Cinematic Orchestra leads into the night with "Reel Life". I used also Architect with "Fast Lane" and "Pissed in the Morning". Télépopmusik with mellow "Don´t Look Back" for the night. Ben Folds Five "Brick" at 6 A.M. Last track is Gonzales with "The Tourist". Guess that´s it as far as I remember...

    What an amazing film!!

I'm an American who has been to the 24hrs at Nurby 3 times now... You have captured the atmosphere perfectly; especially the jazz montage as the race passes into the evening.

    Huge thumbs up. Brilliant filmmaking.

Amazing job! the best filmaking I've seen in a long time. Documentaries and films included. So neat, each and every detail, from the angles, the faces, the music, the light... PERFECT!
  • YoShImUrA 1 year ago
btw, you can really see you were inspired by Steve McQueen's Le Mans, specially with the night shots of the lights of the cars in the background...

Absolutely beautiful video. What music was used in the video?
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
Thanks. We used some tracks by amazing hecq and architect. In addition it was télépopmusic, sigur ross and ben folds five.
  • refikb 1 year ago
Great video, love the racing Rapide!
i really think you should ve given creditsfor music at the end. Would not you like to get credited for your hard work?
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
you know what: aston asked us to do a film for them but chose another production company... concerning the music: I don´t have the rights for it and I couldn´t pay them, so I didn´t shout out the names of HECQ, BEN FOLDS FIVE, TELEPOPMUSIC and ARCHITECT so loud... sorry, but I didn´t have a real choice. I LOVE their works, though!
  • refikb 1 year ago
thanks for the credits! it definitely expanded my musical taste!

well, sorry for the missed opportunity with Aston, but wish you luck on your next job.

Also regarding all that copyright issues, "if" you'r not using music from a big mainstream superstar, sometimes its best to ask for non-commercial permission from the artist. maybe if they like your work, they can give the permission, and maybe get interested in your work, you never know!

What is the title of the song which starts at 3:58. Maybe You can post the whole tracklist? It's also AWESOME!
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
Hey Kalnu, the track is called "Reel Life" (Evolution II) by the Cinematic Orchestra. Check out their film score "the man with the movie camera" - and read the story about it! Great project... I will post the Score later. Thanks for your comment!
  •
  • Was this all hand held or did you have a steady rig of some sort. Did you use an on board monitor for focusing.

    Outstanding work gentlemen.

    jalopnik.com/5552088/the-most-beautiful-24-hours-of-nurburgring-footage-of-the-year

  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago

Would it be possible to get a complete track list broken down by time, with both the artist and song name? Lots of good music in this vid (which is fantastic btw).
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
    Ok, I´ll try:

The whole thing starts with "Hoppipolla! (strange name) by Sigur Ros. Fantastic film guys. Superb vision and beautiful sound mix. I'm a motoring video producer and I'd kill to shoot vision like that.

What audio rig did you use on the D5? How well did it handle the peaks of car engines?
  •
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
The mic was a rode video mic, (100 Euro!) For interviews etc. I would prefare using seperate audio (zoom, etc). Check out philipbloom.com - this guy is the mastermind of DSLR filming!

Combination of 2 amazing things...Motor racing and film making. You obviously love them both. Great job. I loved it.
Could you tell me if you use a rig for your Mk II or do you hold it like an SLR?
  •
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
Just holding it... To be honest: at times it´s shaking and the focus isn´t always that perfect. But I think it doesn´t disturb the atmosphere...
  •
  • Wow echt genial !

  •
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
Hab ich alles schon weiter oben geschrieben. Es gibt kein Rig! Ein Rode micro, ein 50 mm, ein 24-105 und ein 300er. That´s it...

You sir are a true master at what you do. Having been involved in racing for so many years i have rarely seen a video capture the essence of it so well. Next time someone questions me as to why i love car culture, why i strive to race and why i find regular sports boring compared to racing, this will be the video i show them.

Fantastic, compelling movie. Loved all of it. Beautiful score. And a great edit. I think what makes it so attractive for me, is the close access you were able to get. The close ups of all the drivers and crew, you were really able to capture the stress and fatigue and passion and nerves. All of it. I wonder if you are journalists in this sport, or how you were able to get onto the starting grid. I follow motorcycle racing here in the US and its hard to get that kind of access to the pits and track. Makes all the difference. Its all about the people and seeing their eyes....brilliant.

I do hope you get to fulfill your Le Mans mission
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
THANX! I´ve been doing a lot of motorsport in former days and went back there again! Of course we had accreditation. It´s great so see all the feedback here and everywhere in the net! Unfortunately so far nobody knocked at the door for Le Mans...

Very very impressive video. The camera is excellent. The ambiance is well thought out and I believe I got the image you were trying to paint. I have never seen a Nurburg video really, nor a 24hr race. Definitely makes me respect the drivers a little more.
  •
  • Stunning! There's a problem with the sound around 10:54, you can hear the fire extinguisher a second time without see it...
  •
  • 00:35 Alex Zanardi, The Man!!!
  •
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
00.34 is Romain Dumas (Porsche) and after that Markus Winkelhock (Audi). 10.54: We delayed the sound to make it more effective.

  • Tim- This is beyond excellent! Great job. I was wondering if there was some way I can get a download of it? It must be part of my 24hr racing library right between McQueen's Le Man and Audi's Truth in 24! Thank you!
  • tim hahne plus 1 year ago
Hey Soul Bro, sorry - no download. maybe later, or we´ll do a blue ray. I´ll let you know and thanx for the McQueen thing - it´s an honour!
