Only modest auroral activity was expected this night, and so much greater was the surprise to realize that the camera had captured what appear to be 3 separate substorms in less than 3 hours (usually you'll be lucky to see one within 2 hours of the last). The onset of the last substorm (1:23) is extremely bright and impressive, but lasts less than a minute and is too fast and dynamic to be captured in a time lapse.
