Just to show all Vimeo-mini-Letus-lovers that I managed to get the little Sanyo Xacti HD1000 with the Letus Mini + Nikkor 50mm 1.4 on the Steadicam JR. Not easy but a challenge and it really works as you can see. Now I hope someone can test this on the Merlin.

I'll have to make some special mount in order to get my HG10 + Letus Mini onto my Merlin :)

I wish we could see the camera's result image on that spin near the postcards. But it was very nice anyway!

No it wasn't nice, was a bit of a hurry. We even forget to activate the glass 'shaker' on these first shots! (Others Letus users mentioned that too!)

Very interesting. I first used the Steadycam in 1976 with a saddle mount in a western. The inventiveness of the video craze astounds me. Good job, what's next??

Michael have you still got pics of that? and I believe it was your invention to balance two Xactis on a Merlin, one with wide angle and one without! You take them on your coming trip to A'dam?

Interesting. I wonder if an HV20/Letus Mini combo would be pushing it on my Merlin.

Let us know! (eh... Letus know) Wonder or reason why they gave it that name.

Hi Jan, Good to see the results of our efforts yesterday. Next time we attach my DVX100 with rig and Letus35 Extreme to your Steadicam JR, enough weight for a great shooting!!!

the problem is that it's merely impossible to keep a good focus when you're walking a steadicam with a letus, unless you use a dolly. i know it might seem impossible, but i'm pretty sure there should be a way to hack the lens' autofocus feature (that's turned off) by connecting a wire to the camera. i'm actually working on something like that with a friend who's an electronic engineer. that way, anyone would be able to use the autofocus with the letus while using a steadicam and problem solved :-) I'll let you guys know if we succeed.

A long stick (boom or rope) in between actor and cameraman? I will experiment with that also! Please keep us informed.

a rope between the actor and the camera: what for? i'm not sure to understand your strategy here, can you explain?

what i'm trying to do is the following:

-> I have a 50mm canon lens and it has an autofocus feature. The problem is that when it's mounted on the Letus Mini, there's no way for the lens to get the signals from the cam's DSLR, therefore the autofocus can't work on the lens.

The idea we had is to connect the lens to the DSLR 'as if' the lens was directly connected to the camera. To do that, we need to understand how the connection works and hack it. There would be a simple wire connecting the lens to the DSLR and it would run along the Letus length taped on its side.

If that works, then problem solves: we'd be able to use the DOF adapter with no longer problems caused by current manual focus. Not to mention the ease of use in case of Steadicam mount or Dolly moves.

    Let's cross our fingers.

Sounds ideal please keep us informed. The rope trick is a suggestion when you use one distance and ant to keep it.
