Another informercial from the archives. I cut this one to Brett Grace's original music Damaged Story (we collaborate on songs but not this one). Like my video She's My Mechanical Bride I continue with the themes of desires and consuming, among other things. The wackiness in these old advertisements are truly something but in this one I have to say the decor is what got me hooked- it is simply smashing. There is no fancy editing here - this was more about having certain visual moments coincide with the music. Hope you enjoy.

I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the dizzy, goofy 1960 consumerism juxtaposed with the "I want ..." lyrics. The pace of the video and audio went very well together as well.

I use FCP also but am a new user. How do you get your video to have such quality? what settings do you use out of final Cut to export to Vimeo? do you use export to quicktime compression? and what settings? I appreciate the help.

I use the settings Vimeo suggests on the upload page for the H264 - via Quicktime - I will PM you to give you addl info - thanks for the viewing

    Awesome indeed. I'm 1954 vintage, myself, so I'm 54 today (how's that for a neat split!) .
The production blends great, just great with your music.
Now to mention the production: the original is brilliant concept by artists who had almost none of the special effects we control today by mere mouse clicks. Everything is a Paradise Promised by consumerism. You can see the hidden sponsorships: Ford, Bell Telephone, Frigidaire, etc---without a single crass logo. It's all about the climb toward a perfect, materialistic life, one that most of us today still pursue; only the styles have changed.

Ah, for those halcyon days before seat belts (j/k).
I once rolled right out of a moving, 1950 Chevy. I was five.
Grandmother took a left turn at 15 per as I pushed the shiny door opening button. No harm, though, I landed in that soft green 1950s grass swale, and instead of a bump or bruise, I only got dreams from the accident. Dreams of not dying young. So far, so good, ah yes!

  • This is great! An excellent mix of music and images. I love their dream dinner party - no guests except, of course, the scariest clown ever captured on film.

    Nice work!
