Nearly 100 Yellowstone bison meandered through a gate and into open meadows of grass and juniper May 21 at Ted Turner's ranch near Bozeman. Most of the bison had been in quarantine pens north of Yellowstone National Park for nearly five years. These bison will roam on up to 12,000 acres of Turner lands before the adults and 25 percent of their offspring are returned to the State of Montana for dispersal to other appropriate public or tribal lands.
