Thanks Guys. I thought I would add some tech specs here -

Shot on the Canon 5DMKII for most shots. The stop motion and 60p shots were done with the 7D.

I used the Glidecam 4000HD for the moving shots as well as the Cinevate Atlas 30 with 5' rails. All the handheld shots were done with the Cinevate Uno rig.

Filming handheld with DSLRs is hard and it's a must to have some sort of rig to keep it steady.

"Perfect" sounds about right to me! Great work, Joe.
  • Isaac Conyers 9 months ago
but if you have it on a shoulder rig then you'll need to be using a fisheye, just like on the glidecam, right? because you cant exactly pull focus when both hands are on the rig to keep it steady can you?

    Great stuff!
The tilt shift? In camera or post?
  • Joe Simon Films plus 1 year ago
Tilt shift was done in post with Magic Bullet Looks.
  • Kyle Cowling plus 1 year ago
Incredible work, Joe! I had no idea you could to tilt shift stuff in post with MB. Is it more difficult in post you think?
  • Joe Simon Films plus 1 year ago
It's more work in post, but for me I couldn't get the right look out of the 7D because of the crop factor so post was the best option.
  • Kyle Cowling plus 1 year ago
Awesome. Thanks so much for the reply! Much appreciated and always anxious to see your next BMX edit. Ever since discovering your work with LGM, I can't watch those crappy edits that everybody seems to put out on their damn flip camera or something. Haha.

Hey, All your edits are amazing joe!
Do you think the 5dmk11 is worth the extra 1000 or so more than the 7d in the way of using it for videos??
    Cheers.
  • Joe Simon Films plus 1 year ago
I think the 5D has a cleaner image and less noise in the higher ISOs. I much prefer using my 5D over the 7D, the only time I use my 7D is for 60p.
  •
  • Scott Miller 1 year ago
what was the frame rate at 1:39-1:42? the euro was so slow and crisp!!
  • Byron Kutchera plus 1 year ago
My guess is he shot it in 60P on the 7D and then used Motions Optical Flow to make it even slower. Just a guess though. How was it really done?
  • Joe Simon Films plus 1 year ago
That was done with the Twixtor Plugin - revisionfx.com/products/twixtor/ . It's an amazing slow-mo plugin I use in FCP. Frame rate was 30p on the 5D for that clip.
  • Scott Miller 1 year ago
thank you! it looks amazing, the video that is, one more bar added to the pile of mutiny gold
  • Jaak Segers 1 year ago
Hey, nice edit Joe! How did make the slow-mo looks like a ramped slow-mo?
