chriskosho.com/2011/06/hummingbird-revisited-slow-motion.html

UPDATED [6.27.11]: I re-uploaded this video with a new title sequence, better color grading, and slowed it down to 300 fps from the original 60.

El Silencio Lodge in Costa Rica is an amazing place. I highly recommend it.

Part of El Silencio's enormous mountainous property is a hummingbird garden called "The Knot." I spent about an hour there chasing these beautiful birds hoping for a good picture, but they proved to be too fast for me. I was about ready to give up when I decided to ask God for some help. I put the camera on a wooden post, picked a flower, and set my focus. I took a seat nearby and watched, not really certain that one would even come by. Sure enough, within a couple of minutes this a hummingbird flew by! It was definitely a miracle. Of all the flowers in the garden, the hummingbird would choose the same one I did! God hears.

Excellent! What was the shutter speed and camera setting that you use here?

Did you use the editing program to do the slow motion?

Thanks! I was using the 720p 60fps setting on the Canon 7D. I took into Premiere and conformed the clip to 30fps.

I'm stuck with a 32bit Windows 7 laptop for a while. In the future I might look at getting a better computer to edit natively. Until then I'm using a friend's Mac and Final Cut Pro with the ProRes 422 codec.
