Hayaku: A Time Lapse Journey Through Japan
1 year ago
**To all those affected by the earthquake and tsunami. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We wish for the safety of you all.**
Japan is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. This is my Japan. This is one of the many reasons why I love Japan. I shot this in many locations around Japan in the summer of 2009. Some of the location include Tokyo, Matsuyama, Imabari, Nagano, Gifu, and Ishizushisan.
I started this as a personal project to try and capture the beauty that I see in Japan. It started as just that...
But now that I have finished, I see it only as a beginning. This video, along with SAIJO MATSURI (vimeo.com/7458088) is just the start of a much larger project that I have now decided to do.
Anyone interested in helping fund/produce this dream of mine please feel free to contact me:

So I hope you enjoy this preview of what is to come in the future.

I can't say I've been moved by a time lapse before, but I guess there's a first for everything. Congratulations!
Proud to call you one of my mentors!
4:19 was superb.
Japan needs hope right now and the beauty that you wanted to portray has done its work.
Here is a very little thing I did recently, I mean just before the tremors and tsunami but in the completely untouched part of Japan, a countryside, we can say...Beppy, Oita in Kyusyu.
It was an iPhone I used and here it is

did you use a tilt shift lens for some of those shots? what other pieces of glass did you use.
The tilt shift shots were with a Canon 90mmTS 2.8
Would love to work with you for our new Freeskiing-Movie!
haaaa ;)
cheers Fabian
well done Brad. Makes me want to hop on a plane right now...
5:30 is my favorite....and the bridge and the boats after. Wow.
The arch/stairs, that's Kyoto Eastside on the hike up to one of the big kanji symbols right? I've done that hike (if it's the same one). One of the most interesting conversations I've ever had was on those stairs.
I love Japan.
Thanks!
Lovely and powerfull :)
Thanks my friend!!
And I miss Japan.
Were most of those shots wide shots that were cropped and panned in post? I notice a few shots that were definitely on some sort of dolly or motorized head, but a number of them seem like they could've been locked off shots that were panned/zoomed in post. I'm curious to know your process. Or would that be giving away too much of the magic?
Beautiful country. Beautiful movie.
Tryna figure out which one would win in a fight >_
I like the change of moods between the first and second part. Some amazing sunsets in there ! Inspiring work !
Thanks. The video is realy for watching again and again. All comments tell the same.
Thank You
Dean
Just a question: How did you do that at 0:22 ?
:22 was... a lot of work that you will see more of in films to come :)
Just kidding, holyfuckingshit, thats the coolest thing ever.... some serious time devotion, style, & dedication. very cool. what do you reckon the 8minutes equals in 'real time'?
Real time for this? Man.... who knows. Shooting it is only a small part of the battle. Color correcting, exprting, building, post, etc..., takes soooo long for a project like this. I'm scared to try and figure it out:)
Thank you, man!!
