82. Regarding the Nature of Luminance in Ubiquitous Darkness
1 year ago
Charlie wanted to collaborate, so he shot, I shot, and I painstakingly tried to teach myself things in After Effects. Editing and experimentation has become an obviously important choice over sleep.

Conceived and constructed in 6950X720.
Deliciously executed in 3083X320 in FCP.
Song: "Lovers Who Uncover" By The Little Ones, Remixed by Crystal Castles

Best Viewed in Full Screen.

(Feel free to download and experience the largeness that I have concocted, especially over multiple monitors.)

I could say a bunch of stuff here, but in the end it would be summed up with, "you continue to amaze me with your talent." I really hope I can make it on Friday just so I can meet you!
  • hahah you're too much. Don't mistake boredom and insomnia for talent. You're a cute cupcake..i really hope I can meet you on friday, I will have big hugs for you and smiles. :-)

We just got a couch, finally, and we've placed it in our back yard under the willow tree. I was thinking of having a movie night and bbq, I wanna watch vimeo stuff all night off the projector.

    This is on the playlist.
  • victoria 1 year ago
That sounds like so much fun. Can we do that in your backyard when we visit? :D
  • Ian Lucero plus 1 year ago
    Exactly what I was thinking!
  • Oh man...I really hope I can make it just for that. I want to sit on the grass though, I like grass. Make sure it's extra green when I get there.
  • Fuck, what a good idea. Vimeo + Projector + Nighttime + grass&trees + insta-friends.
  • Ian Lucero plus 1 year ago
Oh I'm pretty sure we'll have some grass.

YAY YAY YAY! what do you think about going to half moon bay? that's what ben suggested. he doesn't want to wake up too early (stinker!) so can we meet at 1 pm? maybe we'll call you when we're getting close so you can hop on the bart. how long does it take you from fairfield? where should we pick you up?
  • I don't know where half moon bay is but anytime to meet is fine with me as long as i can be whisped away and returned to a bart station. It takes me about 45 min to drive the station and 45 minutes to get to san francisco. So if you pick any bart station and give me a time, I can make sure I'm there, also I can bring a book or something if I'm early. :-) chirp

:) Is there even a screen that will show this in full res? Sorry, I'm just a bit geeky, I guess...

Can't imagine how you're like when not bored :)
  • hahaha. I'm not sure. I know when I was checking on it while editing it, I was watching it across 3 monitors. I'm surprised my computer didn't burst into flames.

When I'm not bored I'm hanging out with friends or riding my bike or having adventures. My boredom time usually starts at midnight and ends at around 9AM. It's awesome when you have a body that doesn't need lots of sleep but still feels happy and healthy all the time.
  • victoria 1 year ago
enjoy it while you're young pretty girl! I used to be like that too, but it starts to take its toll. Unless you're superhuman, which you very well might be!!

That was cool. I love the text/lyrics.

this hyper-widescreen thing is really working out for you.
  • hahah I think I'm done with it for now. After working on it for so long and how awful it was to have to render everytime i moved anything, I think my venture into hyper-widescreendom has come to an end. Time to find something new to entertain myself with. haha

I liked the text too, i wish I would've done more but I got way too lazy. This was supposed to be a 3 minute video, but i kept trimming it because I didn't want to work on it anymore, (and it only had been a couple hours). I have some weird hobby ADD or something.
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
    i get that. I have a similar condition called Lazy-itis. It forces me to work on my films v e r y s l o w l y . . .
  • haha at least when you do them they turn out golden. I usually rush to the end because I'm scared if it takes too long I'll never finish. Then later when I watch my videos I notice stupid mistakes I could've fixed but now am too lazy to even go back into. The ship has sailed far far away. hee hee
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
I know that exact feeling. I always kick myself... this is why i've learnt to force myself to really take my time. There's no rush. There's a feeling people like us have, which is this excitement to just share it... and I find everytime I give in to that, I regret it later...

Everytime i go back to something after a couple of days, it gets better. So this time around i'm really taking a lot of little breaks in order to really illuminate the flaws... the ones i can fix anyway ;)

Having said that, I don't really see any mistakes in your stuff... so maybe we're just hard on ourselves. lol

Very cool concept - Salad Days hey? LOL that actually could work for a diet commercial - well that's what first comes to mind- but the possibilities with a format like this are endless... Maybe you can make this into a challenge How Wide Can You Go ..... hehehehe
  • Yeah I had to be careful because if I went any wider than this, it would take away from the concept of the video rather than enhance it. I feel it would be easier to go wider if you had the means to view it accordingly, but I think for internet viewing, this is probably as wide as I would go.

    hee hee

    Cool experimental format :)
How did you keep the beat in AE?
    Love your twisted mind Karen.
  • I only did the light streak dotty things in AE, but I edited the entire thing in Final Cut Pro. I marked all the beats in that by spending some cuddle time with the audio waveforms. haha

I love that you love my twisted mind, someone has to. haha

How on earth did you crop it like that?
  • haha it's not cropped its just REALLY REALLY big. With a lot of editing software today you can make your sequences be any dimension you want...the possibilities are endlesssss!!!!

    :-)
  • Antoine Bandele 1 year ago
On After Effects? I mean, I know how to make the black bars to crop it down to whatever I want but I don't know how to crop the dimensions. What editing software are you on?
  • I made this in Final Cut Pro (well, that's where I pieced everything together) I only did the light streaks in After Effects. In final cut pro you make the sequence whatever size you you get that cropped dimension. Or if you want to "crop" an existing project you matte widescreen it. I'm not sure if that answered your question properly but let me know and I can try to explain better.
  • in After Effects you can also make the sequence be any dimension you want so it is super long and small like this one.
  • Antoine Bandele 1 year ago
I'm just unfamiliar with "matte" widescreen. I know how to crop in FCP but that just makes the black bars, not actually crops.
