Neat story, and great visuals! The colors look fantasic, what kind of grading did you do? And what did you shoot this on?

    really well done...

  • Thanks, everyone!

D.M. - We shot these on a Sony EX-1 and a Canon 5D MkII. (For example, the tighter angles in the interview are 5D, the 2 shot is the EX-1.)

As for grading, we debated a number of different solutions, and I'm sure there are many that would have worked. In the end, we just had our talented friend Josh Povec of Compass Light, compasslight.com , color correct the whole series in Final Cut Pro. So pretty much everything was done with the 3-way Color Correction filter in FCP.

Thanks again for your interest, and please check out the rest of our videos (there are 7 more) at meetyourfarmer.org
  • Oh yeah, and please check out the great organization that made this project possible, and that is working hard every day to preserve farming in Maine: mainefarmlandtrust.org

Great story. Really nice pictures. But I still have the impression that, especially in the kitchen scenes in the end, that there is a color problem. Looks like a incorrect white balance to me. But since everything was colorgraded I am wondering if the scene are supposed to look like that.

  • Thanks everybody for all the kind words! DVDs of all eight shorts are now available through the Maine Farmland Trust at mainefarmlandtrust.org

Best of all, all the proceeds from the DVDs will go to that organization, which works to preserve farmland for the next generation of Maine farmers. So you'll be supporting a good cause!

Nice work. I loved the absence of music throughout most of the piece. It seems music is often considered a necessity to add mood, whereas the cinematography done here does just that. Poignant.
