Marks Barfield Architects gave London The London Eye. It soon became the most successful non state funded Millennium project. Next, in partnership with the Eden Project, they turned their eyes to the worst state funded project - the derided Millennium Dome.
Their goal was to repair this failure, help reduce London's housing shortage, produce a template for an eco tower - and build 18 of them, create a new London quarter and clean up one of the most polluted parts of the Capital. They wrote to John Prescott MP - then Environment Secretary - asking for a meeting. No reply. They called. No reply. He was more interested in an Amercian company wanting a big casino to rip off Londoners. Did London miss out?
