At the Democratic Party convention held during Memorial Day Weekend (May 30-31, 2010) Rafael del Castillo spoke of his desire to represent Hawai`i in Washington D.C.
U.S. Representative Neil Abercrombie quit his office to run for Governor. A large number of candidates ran in a special election to fill his office for 6 months, while Congress is largely out of session.
This election allows someone to claim they are the front runner for the November elections.
Behind the Big Three (Republican Djou and Democrats Case and Hanabusa) were the low money low name recognition candidates.
Rafael del Castillo led the other candidates and is now preparing for the September primaries.
