"It's hard being a sports fan these days."

Stadium Status is a documentary which examines the rush of new sports stadiums in NYC as the latest example of an obscene national trend. New stadiums are built every year and the private businesses that own them benefit from huge sums of public money for their creation. Are we getting our money's worth?

Internets Celebrities are Dallas Penn, Rafi Kam and director Casimir Nozkowski
Featuring Neil deMause and Killian Jordan
Additional Cinematography - Ian Savage
Original Music - Bless 1

Stadium Status was funded by fans of the Internets Celebrities via Kickstarter including a sponsorship from our friends at DIYThemes -- the company behind the Thesis theme for Wordpress. We are grateful for everyone's support.

    wow, this gave me chills. you filmed an interview right in front of my former apartment building on dean b/w 6th and carlton. there was nothing blighted about my block - it was vibrant, neighborhood- and family-oriented. more like sesame street than skid row, which is unfortunately how it is often characterized. ratner "blighted" buildings in the neighborhood by buying them and letting them fall to disrepair. very tricky. thanks for getting this out there.
  • Thanks so much for the reply. I've been debating the blight issue with someone on Twitter because sure if you look at the yards and the factories on the other side of Atlantic - things don't look great. But those factories are staying and the yards are only a third of the land being used for the project. The residential blocks as you say look like Sesame Street, beautiful brownstones there.

    Great job, so well done. But it is, unfortunately, yet post-mortem of yet two more NY neighborhoods destroyed by rampant pocket-lining corruption and flagrant eminent domain abuse. I can only hope that enough of the right people are moved by this and the work of others such as Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn that such future urban eulogies become unnecessary. Fahgettaboutit!

    But, there is the following inaccuracy, in that while the Yankees were across the street in the Old Place, they were NOT there for 85 or 86 Years:

    The Original Yankee Stadium was in operation from April, 1923 until September 30th, 1973, or 51 Seasons;

    From April, 1974 until September, 1975, they were at Shea Stadium, as a Newer, 1970s Style Yankee Stadium, was being built. In fact, Shea Stadium was not only home of the Mets & Jets, but the Giants & Yankees, giving no breathing room to the Natural Grass Surface, which was destroyed, landing Pete Flynn in Hospital, he being the Mets Head Groundskeeper, in 1975;

    Yankee Stadium reopened in 1976 & lasted until September 21st, 2008, so the Yankees actually played in 2 different Yankee Stadiums on the same site, but spent two years in Queens;

    The Reopened Yankee Stadium was actually Yankee Stadium II & was actually younger than Shea Stadium, open for 45 Seasons for the Mets, 2 Seasons+1 Emergency Yankees Game, 20 NY Jets Seasons & 1 NY Giants Season;

    Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this Video.
  • Good point Michael. We simplified the facts on that first title card for the sake of establishing the strangeness of both new stadiums opening up in the same year. We could have handled that in a more accurate way.

    Thanks and glad you enjoyed it overall.

    Wow. I grew up in NYC. Went to Shea. Went to Yankee Stadium. Here I am in sfbay, fighting the SF 49ers and their @#$%^&*! shakedown. Thanks for the memories.

    As a sports fan and a former neighbor of "the footprint" this was pretty depressing. It was also very succinct, entertaining, and well researched. Especially for a couple dudes on the internets. Reminds me why I got the hell out of NYC when I did.
