Part 3 of 3 for my final major project at London College of Communication.
The over all concept:
We were given a list of graphic communication formats to choose from and then asked to create a piece of work with its content somehow relating back to the chosen format (if that makes sense?)
I chose the format screen based design and decided to specialise in moving image for screen. In order to meet the specific requirements of the brief I began my research into the early days of screen and took inspiration from that time for the titles of three short experiments in moving image.
One more layer to this project was the music. I approached different musicians asking them to choose a title and make a piece of music for it. I didn't give them any information as to where the tile came from, so not to influence what they would create.
The track for this film was produced by the band Blind Voyeurs, to find out more about them check out their link in the credits.
The inspiration for the title of this piece was taken from the company Technicolor and from what I understand from my research the secrecy of how they functioned as a company. This was how I linked my content to my format, I then went on to abstract that theme and depict it in this mixed media piece. Originally the ‘Technicolor Secrets’ were going to be giant bubbles floating in this fantastic landscape, however due to the cold British weather, the bubbles would not reach the size I needed. I then went with my back up plan, which is what you see above. I filmed on location and then edited the rushes into a sequence that worked with the flow of the music. I then set up a green screen and filmed the paper shapes I had made, matching the light source to that of the specific shots by hand. I have some behind the scenes footage of that on my Vimeo. Adding a simple gradient overlay to the paper shapes gave them their colour. I also added shadows/reflections to the shots and attempted to bring depth to the shots by putting the shapes behind a few things and increasing/decreasing the amount of blur to create the illusion of them going in and out of focus.
