I removed the glass from a 12 volt light bulb, put it in some liquid nitrogen and powered it up. If it wasn't under the liquid it would have promptly burned out. But since no oxygen could get to it there was no problem. The filament could get hot enough to illuminate because of the layer of gas that was produced and provided insulation from the very cold liquid. When the power was switched on the light came on. The video camera compensated by reducing the exposure so the rest of the image gets dark. When the power is switched off the camera again compensates and the background of the image gets brighter again.
