FLUXCONCERT 20080613
An original instruction-based musical concert in 13 movements

June 13, 2008 | 8PM
Lumenhouse
47 Beaver St., Brooklyn, NY

Drawing on the legacies of Karlheinz Stockhausen and Fluxus event scores, FLUXCONCERT 20080613 was a concert in 13 movements generated from 13 textual instruction sets written by Ethan Wagner.

Instead of following musical notation, the ensemble of nine performers followed texts instructing musical actions to be performed, generating a musical evening of original composition, improvisation, and absurdist performance.

Following were two movements from the show:

Set four noisily ticking alarm clocks to ring four minutes after they are set. Run the sound of the ticking through a microphone and sequence the sound, using filters etc. Piece is over when alarms ring.
- Ethan Wagner, Sequenced Ticking, 2008

Try to teach an audience member how to play something incredibly difficult on an instrument that requires a bit of skill.
- Ethan Wagner, Music Lesson, 2008

FLUXCONCERT 20080613 was composed by Ethan Wagner. Artistic Direction by Perry Garvin. Performed by Ken Beasley, Anthony Clune, Ryan Anthony Donaldson, Perry Garvin, Ben Kerrick, Dave Millen, David Rager, Steve Unckles, and Ethan Wagner.
