Just a short experimental piece about the sketches I do that usually serve as thumbnails for larger pastels...but there is something special about the small sketch in its own right. I plan to do more videos about my own artwork, and this was a test to see how I can manage it on my own. It's a challenge to be both in front and behind the camera without it coming off a bit boring :) Next will be a video of my pastel process...but I'm not eager to have my camera around all that pastel dust!

Filmed with a Canon 7D, Tokina 100mm f2.8 lens, edited and color graded in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.

It's very relaxing and I liked the use of color! Nice work!
  • Thanks, Ryan! The video was very plain at first with so much white paper, so added colored lights in post. I appreciate your comments so much. Vicky

Nice video, your subtitle commentary was very interesting as well. I also appreciate Matisse's dance-drawing style
  • Thank you so much, Mike! Documenting my own work is a chance for some self reflection about my work in general - plan to do some more projects.

I am soooo going to be watching your videos. I have to tell you, I am so inspired by watching this. It has been a long time that I have sat down to draw. I have a brand new viewpoint on life now after just having a child... watching just 2 of your videos so far have really made me want to find the time to sit down and just create!! Thank you so much for sharing this. Great idea. I love watching you work and the text on the bottom was wonderful along with it!!!
  • Thanks, Heidi - I'm so glad my work has inspired you!!! I appreciate your kind words so much :)

Beautiful! I'm a terrible pencil-man, which is why I try to compensate by using a camera. But your video makes me believe I should at least give it a shot!
How did you add color light in post?
  • Thank you so much, Snorre - I just love your work and your Prison documentary "Dying Inside" - vimeo.com/12601735 - is brilliant! I'm glad my video inspires you to draw :)

I uploaded some screen shots about how I added the color light in post (in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4):

    - lighting effects added to each individual clip in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 - changed color and setting for each clip
    yfrog.com/gis7kj

    - added a color matte over all the clips and brought down opacity - used soft light blending mode - just to unify all the clips a bit and make the sketch lines richer
    yfrog.com/0vgvcj

    - shot with the lighting effects - different on each one
    yfrog.com/3uhvnj

    - shot without the lighting effects - pretty dull
    yfrog.com/5blfj

I'm about to invest in some good lighting for video - just starting out, and I've had to get creative in post...thanks again - Vicky
