As we head towards the 2010 Federal election, do the Churches have more or less influence in the public square? Where has the Church got it right in engaging in the debates on the day? Where has the Church gone wrong? How can the Church improve communication in the parliamentary and public arenas? What role can Catholics and Christians in the pews play in these debates? Or should it be left to our Bishops?
"How the Church should engage with our Parliaments and Public Opinion."
The Forum has invited two Catholic Senators to present their views on this topic which is important to not only the Catholic Church but to Churches and faiths of all denominations. This will not be a debate but the presentation of two perspectives from both sides of politics. In an election year when it stated by some that only secular views have a right to be in the public square, those that believe that religion and faith are just as entitled to participate in the great political debates of the day will hear from two Senators who are in the front line.
