Welikesmall worked in close collaboration with DraftFCB to develop an immersive rich media environment for the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2010 Census website.
Intersections were the metaphor to frame the documentary stories of real Americans in an immersive website experience. We custom fabricated a multi-camera array, similar to the device used in the movie The Matrix, allowing us to capture a frozen intersection in a single moment of time. Welikesmall handled scouting, pre-production and logistics of three intersection shoots representing urban, main street and rural America. We worked closely with the documentary team as they traveled the country and shot about 30 English and Spanish language stories. Once a site visitor selects a story in the intersection, they are taken down to a ground level view. From here they can dive deeper and watch the chosen video, or sort through other stories. The site was built with accessibility for all types of users in mind; those who enjoy exploration and those that just want to get to the stories fast.
