In this tavern courtyard of Stockholm, you will seldom encounter five more renowned Swedes than when, gathered for this smorgasbord of the psyche, we find the spiritual seer Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772), the playwright August Strindberg (1849-1912), filmmaker Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007), troubadour Carl Michael Bellman (1740-1795), and Ulla Winblad, the 18th century nymph from scores of Bellman's songs set in Gamla stan (old town).

Madness and the bacchanalian impulse haunt the spectrum between fervent belief and existential weariness. And, always standing guard here are the Nordic god and goddess of fertility and abundance, Freyr and his sister Freya.
