A sneak peak at our final segment for WildWater, filmed on a record high, very big North Fork in June 2010. For more see wildwaterfilm.com. The full film will be out in the fall, in festivals and small theaters in mountain towns. A huge thanks to co-writer and collaborator Doug Ammons, check out his incredible whitewater writing at dougammons.com. WildWater is a journey into the mind and soul of whitewater, into the places only river runners can go, places of discovery, solitude and risk. Its a visually stunning feast for the senses, and an expedition into new ideas. We set out to create a new kind of adventure film. One where image, sound and ideas trump all else. We wanted to communicate the essence of the thing we love - wildness and whitewater - and put its soul on film. A tall order. After thousands of hours of effort in around the world and in our studio, we are now editing the full version of a film we call WildWater, and we have achieved much of the goal. Borrowing Hollywood film tools and techniques, including RED digital cinema cameras and high speed film, WildWater brings not only new perspectives, but new images to kayaking and the world of adventure cinema.

Anson. Have you had a chance to see any of Mike Leeds photography (boating and landscape) from the area? Mike is an outstanding boater, artist, and another great guy from that area.
  • Craig, yes I have - he was shooting while we were shooting, and he and I talked a bit. talented shooter for sure, and great guy.

Sick stuff, I love it! :-) Incredible how clear that water is! The extreme high stuff I ran was dark gray in the Alps or coffee brown! You guys are nuts!
  •
  • Great trailer, hope to catch the finished thing at some point. Your video was much more gripping in its depiction of nature and musical in its editing than the turgid opening of YA-B's multi-million budgeted "Home"...I mention that 'cos I happened to watch it the same day. Best of luck with the film and distribution.

Very cool, wow! But as an editor I cant believe you speeded up some of that footage. You just dont do that when the effects off gravity are so obvious. Dont ruin the amazing footage you have.
  • none of it is sped up beyond real time, plenty is shot at high frame rates/slo. The contrast between fast and slow is important to the feel, maybe that's what made you think it was sped up. But its not. Most is slowed DOWN.

Shooting this commercial for motorcycle insurance, we got some gorgeous poses standing guys next to their bikes, some lengthy interviews, poems, books and songs bout riding but, along the way I learned that they get out on the road to get away from such contrivance.

Which is what I love about documentary.

So I went with this one long take we got by chance [though we had practiced one like it] en route from one meet-up to another- just a rider riding, "in the zone", if you will.

The uninitiated aren't going to learn much "about" riding from this ad, and its not perfectly staged, but I think we got pretty close to what's important; which is to say- no, it doesn't look like a commercial.

(Along the way is a subtle reference to the tao. honestly, I prefer the youtube clip).

Hello Forge Motion Pictures , I am a grade 5 teacher from Canada. My students are working on a video project and their topic is water. They would love to have your permission to use some of your footage in their film (1o-20 seconds). It is winter now and and we can't film anything other than snow...not very impressive. :( Please reply...Thank you!
