Wisniewski on "Sara's Law" (A-2592)
In this video press release, Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), chairman of the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee discusses his legislation to create a next-of-kin registry in the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to be used in the event of a life-threatening or incapacitating car accident.
Wisniewski's bill (A-2592) would be entitled "Sara's Law," in honor of Sara Dubinin, a 19-year-old Sayreville resident who was critically injured and incapacitated in a car accident in September 2007.
It took emergency personnel an hour and a half to notify Sara's parents of the accident and, by the time they arrived at the hospital, she had already slipped into a coma. Sara died the next morning, having never awoken.
