'Sooner, Oklahoma' is a dual-screen video about the tourism industry in the fictitious town of Sooner, Oklahoma. The mock television program is sponsored by 'Travel TV' and documents the experience of two sets of tourists traveling in Sooner for three days. The project explores the tourism industry not only as a cultural commodity but also as a vehicle for transmitting history, creating myth, and revealing a collective conscience. But do we ever unmediatedly experience the spaces to which we travel, or are they constructs of an industry that seeks to homogenize and commodify place? Through taking on the role of tourists and travelers and creating a tourist information center, the artists hope to explore these questions about the problematic phenomena of tourism.
